Funding Databases

The University of Iowa subscribes to a number of commercial databases that provide information on funding opportunities. All databases are fairly intuitive but none are all inclusive. Each database is updated daily. Where possible, all databases have direct links from their records to funding entity web sites for primary source information and/or e-mail sites for direct communication. Each allows you to select from their keyword thesaurus and/or do free-text searching. You may use Boolean operators in each database. You may also narrow searches by selecting from and/or entering information in one or up to eleven additional fields. Information within a field has an assumed “OR” relationship: the relationship between fields is “AND”. Easy to use "Help" links are available for all databases.

If you, or one of your staff, would like individual instruction on how to search for funding, contact Oliva Smith at 335-3708. Training may be done over the phone, at your location, or in the UI Division of Sponsored Programs office in 100 Gilmore Hall (This offer of training is available only to the University of Iowa research community.) Or we can do the funding search for you!

COS (from the Community of Science)

NOTE: COS also manages the "Researcher Profile" records for UI and offers a Funding Alert service via e-mail to all researchers who have completed their Researcher Profile.

SPIN (Sponsored Programs Info Network, from InfoEd
