NEW!! NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures (PAPP) Guide (NSF 09-29)

The new, consolidated, PAPP includes the new GPG, which must be used for NSF proposals submitted on or after April 6, 2009.

Confused?

For all NSF FASTLANE applications, use the new (NSF 09-29) GPG, which is part of PAPP.

For all NSF Grants.gov applications, use the NSF Grants.gov Application Guide.

When NSF gives you the option, always use NSF FASTLANE rather than NSF Grants.gov. Why? Because FASTLANE is much easier to use!

How soon prior to the NSF deadline does the UI Sponsored Programs office "need everything?" There is a five business day internal UI deadline for NSF FASTLANE (or NSF Grants.gov) proposals. This means that, five business days prior to the NSF deadline, the proposal must be 100% finished and (for FASTLANE proposals) uploaded to NSF FASTLANE (by clicking the "Allow SRO Access" button with full "view/edit/submit" rights) AND a printed copy of the NSF proposal must be routed, using the UI Proposal Routing Form. UI routing forms must be printed out, to obtain PI (principal investigator), department chair, and college dean signatures, after being completed on-line.

Some NSF applications now REQUIRE the use of Grants.Gov, but most offer you the choice of using either NSF FASTLANE or NSF Grants.gov. (Always us FASTLANE if you have a choice!) Check your specific NSF program or NSF program annoucement to determine if you are REQUIRED to use NSF Grants.gov.

Download your specific NSF Grants.gov application package (For example: for NSF opportunity "NSF 09-500" enter only "09-500" [Do not use quotation marks.] in the "Funding Opportunity Number" box.
