Contracting with the University of Iowa

The University of Iowa encourages relationships with the corporate sector and has participated in a wide variety of agreements serving purposes ranging from basic and applied research, evaluation, training, and demonstrations to public service partnerships. The Division of Sponsored Programs  will either review the contract provided by a sponsor or provide our standard agrreements, as appropriate. Samples of various agreements can be found here or below.

Confidential Disclosure Agreements

Sometimes either one of both of the parties contemplating a research agreement will want to execute a Confidential Disclosure Agreement.

Follow the links below to see the University of Iowa's sample agreements.

 

Incoming CDA (One-Way) 

This type of agreement is used when a sponsor will be disclosing their confidential information to the University of Iowa. The University will not be disclosing confidential information to the sponsor.

Outgoing CDA (One-Way)

This type of agreement is used when The University of Iowa will be disclosing confidential information to a sponsor. The sponsor will not be disclosing confidential information to the University of Iowa.

Mutual CDA (Two-Way) 

This type of agreement is used when both parties will be exchanging confidential information.

Incoming Material Transfer Agreements

The University of Iowa is a signatory to the Uniform Biological Material Transfer Agreement (UBMTA). Often this agreement can be used to simplify the transfer of biological materials or compounds. A discussion of the UBMTA and the UBMTA itself can be found on the Association of University Technology Managers' (AUTM) website.

Facilities and Administrative Costs

When a company, non-profit organization, educational institution or government organization sponsors research at the University of Iowa, facilities and administrative costs ("F&A Costs"; otherwise known as indirect costs) must be included in the budget. Clinical Trials

Contact the Division of Sponsored Programs for corporate sponsored pre-clinical or clinical trials. The Division of Sponsored Programs at the University of Iowa is dedicated to facilitating the process of contract preparation, negotiation and execution. The Division of Sponsored Programs streamlines industry-sponsored clinical research by negotiating contracts with industry contacts, liaising with investigators, providing expert knowledge, and coordinating with our Institutional Review Board and with Western IRB.
