NIH: Academic-Community Partnership Conference Series (U13)

Program Summary

This announcement solicits NICHD Cooperative Agreement Conference (U13) applications to conduct health disparities-related meetings, workshops, and symposia. The objectives of these meetings will be to establish academic-community partnerships, identify community-research priorities, and develop long-term collaborative agendas. Areas of focus for these partnerships may include one or more of the following community-health issues infant mortality; sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS); violence prevention; techniques for outreach and information dissemination; childhood, adolescent, and/or adult obesity; health literacy; uterine fibroid tumors; and pediatric and maternal HIV/AIDS prevention.

Eligibility

Each institution may submit only one application in response to this solicitation.  

Community organizations are, for the purposes of this award, organizations that 1) have a documented (e.g. mission statement) interest in improving the health of the relevant community and 2) have a history (3 years or more) of serving the health needs and interests of the relevant community.

Internal Selection Procedure

The UI Vice President for Research Office has established an internal review procedure to select the UI nominee.  Applications will be reviewed according to the sponsor's selection criteria.  Considerations will also be given to UI institutional strengths and strategic directions.  Potential applicants must submit, using the preselection link below, the following information:

1.   A two page CV
2.   A description of the proposed research.  It should have the following elements:

  • a cover sheet with the project title, your name, department, and campus address, and the title of the program you are responding to.
  • a description of the proposed research (up to but not exceeding the sponsor-identified limit of 10 pages). Please be sure the project is identified on each page and number the pages.  Additional pages may be added for references.

The above materials must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 5, 2010.  The selected nominee will be asked to complete the full application package in accordance with the sponsor's deadline of Tuesday, March 2, 2010.  A non-required letter of intent is due Tuesday, February 2, 2010.
