The far-reaching and diverse applications that are being realized for nanotechnology underscore the importance of outreach and education that supports future development at this important scientific frontier. At The University of Iowa, educational programs are being developed at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, including: freshman seminar courses and special topics courses, incorportation into introductory chemistry courses and advanced undergraduate laboratory courses. The NNI also offers a Nanoscience and Nanotechnology NSF REU (Research Experiences for Undergraudates) program.
