Mission

The Oakdale Research Park environment provides corporations with easy, sustained access to relevant research resources of The University of Iowa.

Building Relationships

Firms locating on the Park can expect to establish and sustain working relationships with UI faculty scientists, physicians, and engineers.  In addition, firms can access facilities and equipment, sponsor research, employ graduate students, hire graduates, license UI intellectual property, and participate actively in the UI academic community.

To meet the specific industrial needs of our corporate clients, four UI “anchor” laboratories have an established presence at Oakdale (more tenants):

·        Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing, a 13,000 sf state-of-the-art, GLP facility with 22 fermentors from 2 to 1,000 liters and the expertise of 58 associated faculty and 300 research associates

·        Center for Advanced Drug Development, a GLP-compliant affiliate of the UI College of Pharmacy, for dosage form, analytical methods development/validation, preformulation, and stability testing

·        Oakdale Medical Research, a 48,000 sf laboratory of the UI College of Medicine with strong, established basic science programs including cellular and molecular biology, and cell physiology

·        National Advanced Driving Simulator (NADS), a 40,000 sf facility and the world’s most advanced laboratory to study ground vehicle and vehicle safety system design and human factors “in the loop”

Setting and Site Amenities

The 189-acre Park offers leased building sites of varying size and prominence to meet individual tastes and requirements, consistent with architectural standards and covenants that define and guarantee the nature of the Park.  Nineteen lots are available for long term lease. [View Site Plan]

A private multi-building complex on the Park, Myriad Technology Plaza, serves clients who prefer to lease existing office and laboratory space.  This complex serves small- and medium-sized research and development firms, and research units of larger firms.

The University Research Park Corporation will assist prospective tenants seeking qualified developers, builders, and financial sources and will also identify possible financial incentives for the project.

Park amenities include contemporary landscaping, lighting and streets, and industrial utilities (water/sewer, electricity, and gas).  The Park is served by fiber optic cable, a DMS100 Super-node digital switch and nearby videoconference facilities, satellite uplink/downlink, microwave relay, and access to the main UI campus and computing facilities.  A paved bicycle/hiking trail passes through the Park.  Dining, hotels, conference facilities, shopping, and recreation/fitness are nearby.

Location

The Oakdale Research Park is conveniently located on Highway 965 near Interstates 80 and 380 and U.S. Highways 1, 6, and 218.  The Park is in the fast-growing community of Coralville, about 10 minutes from the main UI campus in Iowa City, 15 minutes from commercial airlines at the Eastern Iowa Regional Airport in Cedar Rapids and 10 minutes from charter and corporate aircraft at the Iowa City Municipal Airport.
