Employment Opportunities at the UIRF
The UIRF currently does not have any openings for full time permanent positions.
The UIRF also engages entrepreneurs and consultants with specific domain expertise to support the evaluation of new technologies, or, for due diligence on and development of new UI technology spinout companies. These needs are filled on a project by project basis. Because new technologies and companies require extensive speculation and risk-taking, UIRF engages only with individuals that are highly experienced in these arenas. We ask that you carefully review our Available Technologies and the required experience and qualifications for these positions to see if there is a match with our needs and your expertise.
Consultant Position Description
The UIRF works with experienced industry experts to facilitate the commercialization process, or to provide feedback on new technologies or new company concepts. The UIRF welcomes UI alumni who have an interest in working as consultants, or who are interested in working pro bono as a means of making a contribution to the UI. The UIRF is continually seeking industry experts to make connections with companies having unmet technology and market needs, and to make connections with entrepreneurs.
Consultants hired by the UIRF are typically asked to evaluate specific technologies or inventions and make recommendations on the market opportunity and potential licensees. The consultant would be expected to understand the technology commercialization process. The evaluation process will require reviewing detailed invention disclosures, patent applications, and scientific publications, interviewing the inventor, talking with other industry experts or investors, and performing industry specific market research. The consultant may be asked to facilitate connections between the UIRF and potential licensees or entrepreneurs.
Consultants will be hired strictly on the basis of need on a case by case basis, and contingent upon a tight fit with the specific technology and industry to be reviewed. Such projects typically require a few hours or a couple days of consulting in total. Reviewing the Available Technologies provides a good feel for the kind of expertise sought.
People with the desire to provide general business mentoring, general marketing or communications expertise, or other general business knowledge are most likely not a fit with this need.
The structure, logistics and responsibilities for this position will be tailored to the individual’s experience and the UIRF’s needs.
