Randy H. Weiss

Randy is a Partner with Triathlon Medical Ventures, a $105M venture fund focused on early-stage biomedical investments in the Midwest, and is a member of the St. Louis Arch Angels Network. He is also Managing Director and Founder of Start-up St. Louis, LLC, which provides services to early-stage life science companies, investors, and other stakeholders. Currently, Randy is a board observer for Kereos, a St. Louis Triathlon portfolio company, and serves on the Invest Midwest selection committee, the St. Louis Capital Alliance committee, and the Venture Capital Advisory Board for the CISA Conference to be held in St. Louis in September 2008.

Previously Randy held numerous positions related to company formation and life sciences, including:

  • Vice President of Sourcing and Due Diligence for BioGenerator, a St. Louis not-for-profit seed fund, where he sourced and evaluated deals, supported investment decisions, or provided management services to start-ups including Akermin (Saint Louis University spin-out), ISW Group, Venganza, APT Therapeutics, and Medros (Washington University spin-out), and served on the board on APT Therapeutics.
  • Medicinal chemist and co-inventor of technology discovered at Monsanto/Searle that was spun-out to MetaPhore Pharmaceuticals, a St. Louis start-up recently acquired by ActivBiotics.
  • Established a consulting firm called Molecular Strategies, Inc. providing services to venture capital and life science start-ups and was Executive Vice President with Crown Capital, a St. Louis-based investment banking firm.
  • Chief Operating Officer for ABC Laboratories, Inc., a pharmaceutical contract research organization.
  • Worked in various pharmaceutical research & development roles for 13 years at Monsanto/Searle, including Director of R&D in which he led product development teams with oversight of clinical, regulatory and safety, manufacturing, and pre-clinical.

Randy has a Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry and an Executive MBA degree, both from Washington University in St. Louis. He was a Robert A. Welch post-doctoral fellow in Biochemistry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
