Join us for Happy Hour + Art at the next Stanley Museum of Art First Friday reception at FilmScene! Stanley First Fridays provide an ideal chance to usher in your weekend, enjoy the work of local artists, and mingle with other art enthusiasts.
Our December First Friday features photographs by John Moyers.
The only unifying theme for these photographs is that they are some of Katherine Moyers' favorites. She has a keen eye for identifying photographic subjects and is a valuable critic. These images comprise an eclectic mix of nature, travel, and local scenes from a great egret during mating season, to a military guard at Castro’s gravesite, to a red barn in rural Iowa. The final picture features the Crandic Railroad bridge over the Iowa River. Katherine urged John to take the image and advised him through the editing process.
John Moyers has been making digital, color photographs since 2012 and is self-taught. Most of his work fits into the categories of nature and travel photography. His images have been shown in exhibits locally and have received awards in several regional contests. Moyers retired from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and the Carver College of Medicine in 2014 after spending 35 years in the Department of Anesthesiology. He and his wife, Katherine, live in Iowa City, Iowa.
First Fridays are free and open to all with complimentary popcorn and a cash bar.
