Mallinckrodt Foundation Grant Program

The information below is based on the fall 2012 guidelines.  Updates from the Mallinckrodt Foundation, if any, will be posted here as soon as they are received.

Program Summary

The mission of the foundation is to support early stage, highly promising investigators engaged in basic or clinical research that has the potential to advance the understanding, diagnosis or treatment of disease.

The funds are designed to provide to tenure track faculty members at American Institutions who hold M.D. and/or Ph.D. degrees start-up support to move the project forward to the point where R01 or other independent funding can be obtained.

A maximum of two proposals will be accepted from each institution per deadline.  Tenure track faculty who hold M.D. and/or Ph.D. degrees are eligible to apply.
Proposals must contain such an adequate detailed description of the project as to be clearly understandable by the medical members of the Trustees.  They need not be in the detail requested by the N.I.H. for RO1 grants and should not exceed five pages in length. Additional material can be submitted as an attachment, but the five page application should contain the essential information.  References should also be included to support the proposal.
A one-two page lay summary must be provided as part of the proposal.  Applicants should bear in mind that the Board includes non-scientist members, making this summary of particular importance.
A proposal must be accompanied by letters of approval by the Dean of the medical school and/or other senior faculty member or members who can represent the support of the institution and who are acquainted with the qualifications of the applicant.
Award Information
Regular grants provide $60,000 per year for a period of up to three years.  The grants are not renewable.  The foundation will not fund overhead.
