NIH: Tuberculosis Research Units (U19)

Program Summary

The purpose of this FOA is to support the establishment of  two to three multinational, multidisciplinary Tuberculosis Research Units (TBRUs) that will operate as a collaborative network to study tuberculosis latency and persistence and their relation to active TB disease, in humans and animal models.

Eligibility

Only one application per institution is allowed.

Award Information

Cooperative agreement.  NIAID intends to commit $10 million in FY 2014 to fund two (2) to three (3) TBRUs.  Applicants may propose budgets of up to $3.25 million total costs (direct and indirect combined) in FY 2014.  The award project period is 7 years.

Internal Selection Procedure

The Office of the Vice President for Research and the Carver College of Medicine have established an internal review procedure to select the UI nominee. Applications will be reviewed according to the sponsor’s selection criteria. Consideration will also be given to UI institutional strengths and strategic directions. Potential applicants must submit, using the preselection link below, the following information:
 
1. A two page CV; and
2. A description of the proposed project. It should have the following elements:
The above materials must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2012. The selected nominee will be asked to complete the full application package in accordance with the sponsor's deadline of Wednesday, February 13, 2013.
