Program Summary

The Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation believes that reading is critical to building futures for children. With our grant program, we want to provide funds that help teach the value and wonder of reading to children across the country.
Funding Priorities

We desire to provide books for children from underserved populations for schools, shelters, social service agencies, libraries and other organizations that encourage literacy and reading. Examples include:

We do not provide funds for the following:

Although we prioritize efforts that provide books for children, we also support programs that encourage literacy and reading through the use of technology.

We support quasi-governmental organizations such as public schools, public libraries, state universities and similar entities through 501(c)(3) organizations that have been set up to provide financial support for the quasi-governmental organization. Examples include “friends” groups, school district foundations, university foundations, or similar entities whose role is to raise funds on behalf of the civic entity.
Organizations are able to apply only once a calendar year.  Grant requests will be accepted beginning in February 2013 until October 31, 2013. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year.
