NIH: International Cooperative Biodiversity Groups (U19)

Program Summary

The National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation invite applications for the establishment or continuation of "International Cooperative Biodiversity Groups" (ICBG) to address the interdependence of biodiversity exploration for potential applications in health, with investments in research capacity that support sustainable use of these resources, the knowledge to conserve them, and equitable partnership frameworks among research organizations in the U.S. and low and middle income countries (LMICs). Only one application per institution is allowed.  While each institution may only submit one application as the applicant institution, an institution may be both the applicant organization on one application and a sub-award or associate program on additional applications.

Award Information

Cooperative agreement.  Issuing agencies and partner components intend to commit an estimated total of $3.3 mil for Fiscal Year 2014, corresponding to an estimate of 3-4 awards.  An applicant may request a budget for direct costs up to $700,000 per year.  An applicant may request a project period of up to five years. 

Internal Selection Procedure
The UI Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development and the Carver College of Medicine have established an internal review procedure to select the UI nominee. Applications will be reviewed according to the sponsor's selection criteria. Consideration will also be given to UI institutional strengths and strategic directions. Potential applicants must submit, using the preselection link below, the following information:
  1. A two page CV; and
  2. A description of the proposed project. It should have the following elements:
The above materials must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. The selected nominee will be asked to complete the full application package in accordance with the sponsor's deadline of Wednesday, November 20, 2013.
