Walmart: State Giving Program

Program Summary

The Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program plays an essential role in the Foundation’s mission to create opportunities so people can live better. The Program provides grants to 501(c)(3) organizations, ranging from $25,000 to $250,000.  

The Foundation has adopted four areas of focus: Hunger Relief &Healthy Eating , Sustainability, Women's Economic Empowerment and Career Opportunity.  The Walmart Foundation encourages funding requests that align with at least one of its four areas of focus - programs that do not align with the four areas of focus will not be considered.
One application per organization is allowed. Organizations must be requesting support for programs that serve unmet needs of low-income, underserved populations within the state or region for which they are applying.  
Organizations may receive only one grant per state per calendar year. Nonprofit organizations, including national organizations applying on behalf of their affiliates serving more than one state, must apply in each state for locally specific work. Generic applications submitted to multiple states will not be considered.
Application Cycles
Iowa applicants may apply in application cycles 2 (April 13-26, 2014) and 4 (September 7-13, 2014) only.
Focused Giving - Organizations seeking funding for programs focused on Hunger Relief & Healthy Eating or Career Opportunity can apply in either one of their state’s annual cycles.

Community Engagement Giving - Organizations seeking funding for programs outside of those listed in Focused Giving, and whose programs focus on the unmet needs of underserved low-income populations, can apply in cycles 3 & 4 only.  (Iowa applicants may apply in cycle 4 only.)
Award Information
The State Giving Program awards grants from the Foundation of $25,000 to $250,000. 
Internal Selection Procedure 
The Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development has established an internal review procedure to select the UI nominee. Applications will be reviewed according to the sponsor’s selection criteria. Consideration will also be given to UI institutional strengths and strategic directions. Potential applicants must submit, using the preselection link below, the following information:
1. A two page CV; and
2. A description of the proposed project. It should have the following elements:
The above materials must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014. The selected nominee will be asked to complete the full application package in accordance with the sponsor's deadline of Saturday, April 26, 2014.
