ECA: Ngwang Choephel Fellows Program

 Program Summary

The Ngwang Choephel Program promotes activities that preserve cultural traditions, enhance sustainable development, expand economic opportunities, and support environmental conservation within Tibetan communities in China.  Proposed projects must be two-way exchanges involving both U.S. and foreign participants and should take place over a two-year period. Economic empowerment proposals could, for example, include economic activity related to cultural preservation, eco-tourism, traditional medicine, or community-based training programs. Special attention should be paid to concrete outcomes such as job creation, market readiness, small business growth, enhanced professional skills, etc. 

Applicant institutions may submit only one proposal under this competition. If an applicant submits multiple proposals, each of these submissions will be declared ineligible and receive no further consideration in this competition. 
Award Information
Approximate total funding: $530,000.  Approximate number of awards: two.  Approximate average award: $265,000.
Internal Selection Procedure
The UI Office of the Vice President for Research has established an internal review procedure to select the UI nominee. Applications will be reviewed according to the sponsor's selection criteria. Consideration will also be given to UI institutional strengths and strategic directions. Potential applicants must submit, using the preselection link below, the following information:
  1. A two page CV
  2. A one-page description of the proposed project. It should include the components of the sponsor's executive summary request: 
The above materials must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2014. The selected nominee will be asked to complete the full application package in accordance with the sponsor's deadline of Friday, March 21, 2014.
