LIFA: Lilly Innovation Fellowship Award 2014
Eli Lilly and Company is pleased to announce the 2014 Lilly Innovation Fellowship Award (LIFA); a competitive post-doctoral fellowship award and training partnership program. This prestigious Award program is designed to foster post-doctoral career development through the recognition of highly innovative post-doctoral research proposals by providing the recipient with up to 4 years of salary, benefits, limited travel support, and a unique training experience while participating in the program.
The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is invited to select up to two (2) outstanding post-doctoral scientists to apply for this competitive award.
To qualify for consideration, the LIFA applicant must be within 6 years of having received his/her PhD, MD or equivalent degree, and must have an academic post-doctoral mentor at your institution.
Recent doctoral graduates may apply provided they complete their doctoral degree by August 1, 2014 and have obtained the commitment of an academic post-doctoral mentor in your School who will support them in their application process.
All applicants must have the support of their institution. Your School may submit up to two (2) applications and they must be sent to Lilly by the office of the Dean. Applications received directly from individual applicants will not be accepted.
If selected to receive a LIFA fellowship, the applicant must begin their post-doctoral appointment at your academic institution and available to accept the LIFA award and be on-boarded as a LIFA post-doctoral scientist no later than September 2014.
Full salary and benefits for up to four years paid by Lilly
Limited travel support of $5,000 per year
Annual payment of $45,000 to the university to be used in support of the post-doctoral scientist, irrespective of where the post-doctoral scientist is located
Ability to work at both the academic institution and Lilly research site; relocation support when moving to work at Lilly
Career development resources, including participation in Lilly's post-doctoral scientist development training programs
Interaction with Lilly's global scientific network and the opportunity to become part of Lilly's community of current post-doctoral scientists and alumni
Internal Selection Process
The Office of the Vice President for Research and the Carver College of Medicine have established an internal review procedure to select the UI nominees. Applications will be reviewed according to the sponsor's selection criteria. Consideration will also be given to UI institutional strengths and comprehensive campaign priorities. Potential applicants must submit, using the submission link below, the following information:
A two page CV
A two-page description of the proposed project briefly describing the innovative research the post-doc will pursue during their training and the alignment with LIFA's
Additional pages may be used for references.

5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014
. The selected nominee will be asked to complete the full application package in accordance with the sponsor's deadline of Friday, May 9, 2014.
