UI-led rocket explores near-Earth magnetic reconnection

A NASA mission conceived at the University of Iowa is exploring how energized particles interact with Earth. The missions, called, Twin Rockets to Investigate Cusp Electrodynamics, or TRICE-2, launched earlier this month. They’re exploring magnetic reconnection, the explosive process that allows charged particles from space to stream into Earth’s atmosphere.

UI professor puts artistic spin on marine research

University of Iowa Assistant Professor in Printmaking Terry Conrad joined scientists from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on a research cruise to study foraminifera, single-celled organisms that live in the ocean, and to create related art as part of a science-through-art effort funded by the National Science Foundation.

Dare to Discover banner campaign preview

Downtown banner campaign will put the spotlight on students

Starting in January, more than 40 undergraduate and graduate students will be recognized for their important contributions to research, scholarship, and discovery at the University of Iowa.

The students will be featured on large Dare to Discover banners that will be displayed throughout downtown Iowa City and in the University Capitol Centre through March 2019. The campaign is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research.
