The Milky Way galaxy has a clumpy halo

Astronomers at the University of Iowa have determined our galaxy is surrounded by a clumpy halo of hot gases that is continually being supplied with material ejected by birthing or dying stars. The halo also may be where matter unaccounted for since the birth of the universe may reside.

Stay in touch with your emotions to reduce pandemic-induced stress

The coronavirus has ushered in a lot of stress. A team of psychologists at the University of Iowa say people can reduce stress by identifying their emotions and taking mindful action to address them. The findings come from a national survey gauging how Americans are faring during the pandemic.

OVPR will host a town hall on foreign influence on Oct. 12

In response to growing national concerns about the potential for foreign influence in academic research, a virtual town hall on international engagement in research is scheduled for October 12, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. CST. It is open to all University of Iowa faculty, staff, and students.

Register now for free webinar on research security Oct. 7

University of Iowa research faculty, post-docs, staff, and administrators are invited to participate in a free regional webinar on research security from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. (Central Time) Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Hosted by the University of Minnesota and other institutions in Minnesota, the webinar will be led by the director of The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), Kelvin Droegemeier, and is supported by the National Science Foundation.
