Celebration of Excellence in Research, Scholarship, Teaching, and Service honors CCOM faculty

Six researchers and scholars receive AHI grants from OVPR

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) has selected the winners of the 2022 Arts and Humanities (AHI) grants, which support humanities scholarship and work in the creative, visual, and performing arts.

“The AHI program has been supported by OVPR for almost 25 years,” said Marty Scholtz, vice president for research. “It is an important investment in individual and collaborative scholarship in the arts and humanities disciplines, which face a limited landscape of external funding opportunities.”

Earth Month feature: The State Hygienic Laboratory partners with IDNR to serve the environmental needs of the state

From the air we breathe, to the water we drink, to the soil that we walk on, staff at the State Hygienic Laboratory (SHL) at the University of Iowa, in partnership with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, have a hand in monitoring the health of Iowa’s precious natural resources.

Winners of OVPR DEI Team and Supplemental Awards announced

The Research Development Office (RDO) within the Office of the Vice President for Research has selected four winners of DEI Team Awards and seven winners of DEI Supplemental Awards. The seed grants are $25,000 each.

Anthropologists study disappearance of North America's first dogs

University of Iowa anthropologists have examined canine jawbones uncovered at an early American Colonial settlement in Jamestown, Virginia, to postulate how indigenous dogs in North America—the continent’s first dogs—gave way to European breeds.

TRACERS mission moves to next phase

A NASA-funded mission led by the University of Iowa to study how particles streaming from the sun affects Earth has been approved for its next phase. Researchers with the TRACERS mission now will begin designing and building the satellites and instruments as they prepare for launch in July 2024.

University of Iowa key partner in $360M national water consortium

The University of Iowa will be a key partner in a $360 million center to improve the United States’s ability to predict water-related hazards and better manage its water. Iowa will receive $21 million as a partner in the Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology.

UI researchers create map showing flood risk for Iowa farmland

Researchers at the University of Iowa have created the first set of maps examining the flood risk for all farmland in Iowa. The maps show 450,000 acres of crops in areas with a 50% chance of flooding, and losses from flooding averaging $230 million annually.

Because of Shark Tank, Iowa JPEC Alumna Cole has another life-changing event

University of Iowa alumna Erica Cole appeared on ABC TV’s Shark Tank on April 1. By the time she left, sharks (judges/investors) Mark Cuban and Emma Grede invested $100,000 for 10% ownership in Cole’s company, No Limbits.
