Research misconduct as defined in 42 CFR §93 and in the University of Iowa Operations Manual Chapter II §27.6, as “…fabrication, falsification or plagiarism in proposing, performing or reviewing research, or in reporting research results… Research misconduct does not include honest error or differences in opinion.” Research misconduct is a “significant departure from accepted practices of the relevant research community… and is committed intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly.”

Allegations of research misconduct are serious in nature and confidentiality for all parties involved must be and will be maintained.
