The University of Iowa Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development has named Wendy Beaver as Executive Director of the Division of Sponsored Programs (DSP).

Previously Beaver was Senior Associate Director of DSP. She replaces Jennifer Lassner, who recently was promoted to Senior Assistant Vice President for Research.

A longtime UI employee, Beaver joined the DSP in 1994 as an Assistant Director. The DSP offers a range of services for faculty, staff, and students seeking external funding for research, training, service, and other scholarly and creative endeavors that enrich the UI and its broad and far-reaching communities.

In her 22 years with DSP, Beaver has accumulated direct experience negotiating, drafting and approving contracts and streamlining processes to ensure scholars spend their time pursuing knowledge rather than dealing with administrative challenges. Her time at DSP coincided with the rise of the Internet age and Beaver was part of the division’s transition from paper to electronic processes.

“Wendy has cultivated a reputation for forward thinking, dedication and service,” said Lassner. “She brings a wealth of experience to Sponsored Programs and I fully expect the department will thrive under her leadership.”

The Division of Sponsored Programs is part of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development which provides resources and support to researchers and scholars at the University of Iowa and to businesses across Iowa with the goal of forging new frontiers of discovery and innovation and promoting a culture of creativity that benefits the campus, the state, and the world.
