Updates

09/22/23: Campus update: Potential Federal Government Shutdown 

10/01/23: Congress averted a federal government shutdown with a 45-day stopgap funding bill.

11/14/23: Funding for the federal agencies is set to expire on November 17. Information about the potential impacts of a federal shutdown on the University of Iowa research enterprise is available in this message to campus (distributed 9/22/23). 

11/16/23: Congress passed a continuing resolution to avoid a shutdown. Some federal departments will be funded through Jan. 19, while others (including NIH) will be funded through Feb. 2. 

1/17/24: Funding for federal agencies supported by spending bills for Energy and Water, Agriculture, Military Construction - Veterans Affairs, and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development will expire on January 19 unless Congress passes a continuing resolution. The OVPR is monitoring the situation closely.

1/19/24: Congress passed a stopgap funding bill to extend government operations until March. The bill sets a new deadline of March 1 for Energy and Water, Agriculture, Military Construction - Veterans Affairs, and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and March 8 for the remaining appropriation bills.
