The University of Iowa’s Faculty Innovators Workshop is a four week course on commercializing innovative research and technology.

In a climate where funding from the NIH and other federal agencies is becoming more competitive, the program is designed to provide UI faculty, staff, and students with the opportunity to further develop marketable ideas. This has been shown to greatly increase the likelihood of receiving SBIR and other funding. 

“Faculty Innovators is a crash course in business with top notch advisors. It’s the go-to resource to start commercializing academic discoveries,” said Kristi Thiel, Co-Founder of Immortagen and Assistant Research Scientist at the University of Iowa.

This program gives participants an introduction to the NSF I-Corps program, and immediate access to a $2,500 grant to help bring ideas to life.  At the conclusion of the program, participants are encouraged to proceed with the Venture School program or apply to the national NSF I-Corps team program to receive an additional $50,000 in funding.

The Faculty Innovators Workshop is taught by experienced entrepreneurs from the health care, technology, software, and biomedical fields.
