Requirements and Limitations
- This appointment is for a limited duration, anticipated length of one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year. At the end of the second year of employment or enrollment into graduate school, the appointment will terminate.
- The intern could be rehired through the competitive search process.
- The number of interns employed would be no greater than 30% of the total number of budgeted research assistant staff (PRK1).
Salary and Benefits
- Starting salary (paid by department/PI research funds) should be:
- First year stipend -$36,500
- Second year stipend - $39,150
Comp & Class will be reviewing the salaries to align with current compensation practices. We will update the website when information is available regarding any changes.
- 100% effort
- Optional insurance package of UIGRADCare or SHIP and student dental plan (intern may elect not to participate). Interns may remain on parent coverage through age 26.
- Retirement plan participation is mandatory
- Covered by University Workers Compensation
- Fringe rate at the temporary rate
- Annual paid leave of Fifteen (15) working days and University holidays. Paid leave does not carry over to the next year. The appointing department is responsible for arranging and accounting for leave.

Recruitment
In addition to advertising this program on departmental and/or collegiate websites and to faculty on campus, specific steps will be taken to increase awareness of the program both on campus and off campus. Information about the program may be shared with undergraduate advisors and at various career fairs, as well as with student organizations and affinity groups, including, but not limited to: Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students, University of Iowa Veterans Association, etc.
