The Office of the Vice President for Research operations team supports the research mission of The University of Iowa by providing essential financial and human resources functions for research centers, institutes, and individual investigators.

The team handles the important human resources and financial administration functions that enable the research mission of The University of Iowa. By managing payroll, benefits, expenses, budgets, and compliance for research staff and projects, they free up researchers to focus on their research programs.

The team's responsibilities include:

  • Managing payroll and benefit services for research staff funded from extramural grants and contracts. This includes hiring, onboarding, processing timesheets, managing leaves of absence, benefits enrollment and changes, and termination of research employees.
  • Providing financial services and oversight for all extramurally funded research projects. This includes establishing accounts, processing expenses, performing budget oversight and reporting, and managing subcontracts and consulting agreements.
  • Negotiating indirect cost rates and other terms related to grants and contracts that fund research projects.
  • Administering related policies and procedures to ensure compliance with sponsor, state, and federal requirements for research administration.
  • Providing assistance, consultation, and training to researchers, administrators, and staff to support efficient and effective research administration.
