The Operations Team within the Office of the Vice President for Research supports the research mission of The University of Iowa by providing essential financial and human resources functions for the research organization’s faculty, staff, and students. By managing employee engagement, staffing, employee relations, expenses, budgets, and more for OVPR units, the operations team allows faculty, staff, and students within OVPR units to focus on providing resources and support to researchers, scholars, and creators. 

 

The team’s responsibilities include: 

  • Managing human resources, budget, and finance functions for research staff funded from general education funds, extramural grants, and contracts. This includes hiring, onboarding, processing timesheets, managing leaves of absence, and termination of OVPR employees. 
  • Providing financial services and oversight for funded research projects. This includes budget oversight and reporting, including oversight of subcontracts and consulting agreements. 
  • Administering related policies and procedures to ensure compliance with sponsor, state, and federal requirements for research administration. 
  • Providing assistance, consultation, and training to senior leaders, faculty directors, administrators, staff, and students, to support efficient and effective research administration.
