The Distinguished Research Administrator Award is presented annually to recognize staff members who provide exceptional service in support of research at the University of Iowa by exploring funding opportunities; assisting with grant proposal preparation, submission, and post-award administration; and providing operational support.
Eligibility
All current, permanent, noncontract Merit Supervisory Exempt/Confidential and Professional and Scientific staff with a 50% or greater appointment are eligible.
Deans, associate deans, departmental executive officers (DEOs), and supervisors are preferred nominators. Other senior faculty or staff may also serve as nominators. Self-nominations are permitted.
Competitive nominees will demonstrate impact through criteria such as:
Outstanding contributions to research development, such as grant proposal preparation and submission, process improvements, and facilitation of collaborative efforts.
Distinguished work that represents an exceptionally effective set of contributions to research.
Direct work experience with University of Iowa researchers extending over seven or more years.
Outstanding contributions that go beyond the ordinary fulfillment of the individual’s position duties.
Nomination and selection process
Required documents:
Letter of nomination: A brief description, no more than 750 words, of the nominee’s qualifications and accomplishments. Include specific examples.
Up to two letters of endorsement: Letters should be no more than one page and address the criteria listed above.
The letter of nomination and the letters of endorsement should be written by different people.
Nominee's curriculum vitae (CV), resume, or work history: Up to two pages.
Late materials will not be accepted.
Award details
A $1,000 prize and a commemorative gift.
Recognition at the University of Iowa Faculty and Staff Awards Celebration, usually held in May.
