Unearth a Story: What Do the Bones Tell Us? Children's Program at Waukee Public Library promotional image

Cherie Haury-Artz from the University of Iowa Office of the State Archaeologist will present, "What Do the Bones Tell Us? for children (entering grades Kindergarten to 5) at the Waukee Public Library as part of their Unearth a Story summer reading program.

Registration is requested. This program is organized by the Waukee Public Library - please contact them if you have questions regarding the in-person program. Registration will open on July 3.

What Do the Bones Tell Us? program description:

Cherie Haury-Artz from the Office of the State Archaeologist will lead activities to introduce students to animal bones found in association with archaeological sites. Students will learn basics of recognizing different kinds of animal bones and discuss what they can tell us about the lifeways of humans throughout Iowa’s past. Activities include examining animal skulls and teeth, articulating skeletons, discussing animal diets, and learning about the many ways animals were used beyond food. Practice scientific inquiry skills such observation, inference, and critical thinking while learning about Iowa’s past!
