Anindita Bandyopadhyay creates machine-learning tools—software that learns from data to predict outcomes—to help healthcare teams make quicker, more accurate decisions. Working with oncologists and nurses in the University of Iowa Health Care’s Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, she combines clinical notes, patient feedback, treatment histories, and messages to create easy-to-understand timelines of each patient’s symptoms. Her tools help care providers anticipate issues in advance—enabling earlier outreach, better triage, and supportive care that can improve quality of life during cancer treatment.
Bandyopadhyay has also worked on projects related to vaccine misinformation, e-cigarette cessation, and suicide risk in veterans.
“Research at the University of Iowa has helped me partner across clinics and public health platforms to turn questions into usable tools,” she says.
After graduation, Bandyopadyay hopes to continue her research, turning messy, real-world data into better healthcare outcomes for patients.
