In collaboration with the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science’s K Club, the NIH K Club+ is designed to give you the knowledge and resources to craft competitive K award applications. Club+ participants will take part in events and services including graphic design, editing, and review services.

Registration for the FY25 NIH K Club+ is now open.

Register here by Friday, September 27 to participate in the NIH K Club+.  The RDO will send calendar invitations and Zoom links for the required events upon registration.

NIH K Club+ Eligibility, Events, and Services

Assistant professors (or equivalent) and postdocs who are eligible to submit NIH K awards are welcome to register for this program.

Note: Club+ participants receive these events and services free. It is expected the Club members will participate in all events and services. All events and services must be completed within one year of attending the K Award Ecosystem session.

K Club+ Information Session (Virtual; September 13 from 9:00-9:30 am)

This is an information session to describe the NIH K Club+.

Register here by Thursday, September 12. A calendar invitation and Zoom link will be sent upon registration.

The K Award Ecosystem (Virtual; October 4 from 8:30 am-12:30 pm)

The seminar is presented by Dr. Peg AtKisson (AtKisson Training Group). The seminar will walk you through all the parts of the proposal, emphasizing the purpose of each part and how different sections must mesh.

K Club+ Kickoff Session (Virtual; October 11 from 9:00-9:30 am)

This session will set expectations and let folks know what is required for participating in the K Club+.

Specific Aims Review (In-person; contact Jamie Thrams to schedule)

Presenters will receive feedback on their specific aims from ICTS KL2 co-directors, field-specific senior faculty, and peer junior faculty. Presenters will share a 5-minute overview of their writing and any specific areas for feedback or questions

K Award Recent Awardee Panel Session (Virtual; October 25 from 10:00 am-11:00 am)

This panel session will provide an opportunity to hear from three accomplished K Award recipients regarding their experience with the application process, need-to-know information, plus much more.

Graphic Design

Have one key figure designed for your proposal.

External Grant Review

Participants will receive expert feedback from one external reviewer of their choice. Complete and compliant proposals must be sent to the external reviewer eight weeks before the due date. Learn more here.

Internal Grant Review

Participants will receive expert feedback from three internal (University of Iowa) reviewers of their choice. Complete and compliant proposals must be sent to the internal reviewers eight weeks before the due date.

Editing Assistance

Participants will receive up to ten hours of editing assistance to improve their writing’s clarity. Full proposals must be sent to the editors four weeks before the due date.

This program was created in collaboration with the ICTS K Club, assisting scholars in improving their writing and progress towards earning grant funding.
