Why should you participate?
1. Make an impact
The participation of research volunteers has been critical to our current understanding of how to treat a number of widespread conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and much more. Other types of non-therapeutic research can expand our understanding of ourselves, each other, and the world around us in countless ways.
By participating in research, you have the unique opportunity to participate in science in action.
2. Get engaged in research that matters to you
In some cases, participation in clinical research may allow you to obtain new information about you and your health, and/or access new drugs and therapies.
As a healthy volunteer, your participation is an opportunity to contribute to an area of research that you care about due to a personal experience or that of a loved one.
How to get involved
Email requests
Faculty, staff, and students at the University of Iowa receive regular emails from research teams seeking participation in their studies. Many of these studies are seeking healthy volunteers to participate in a range of short studies, from psychology, to exercise science, to maternal health, to speech perception. These emails seek to build on the strong connections of the Hawkeye community to identify research participants who are eligible. Compensation is often provided.
If you no longer wish to receive these emails, unsubscribe by removing the checkbox next to Research Recruitment in your mass mail preferences.

ResearchMatch.org
Volunteers of any age, race, ethnicity, or health status are invited to join the national database ResearchMatch.org. Study participation can be as simple as filling out a questionnaire, maintaining a diary, taking new medications, or using new devices such as pacemakers or hearing aids. ResearchMatch.org is sponsored in part by the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Iowa.
Your rights as a research subject
The University of Iowa is strongly committed to protecting the rights, safety, and welfare of everyone who volunteers to be in a study. Federal law and University of Iowa policy provide protections and oversight of the rights of human subjects. Learn more on the Human Subjects Office’s website.
