The Innovation in Safety Award celebrates exceptional and groundbreaking innovations that advance safety at the University of Iowa.
Eligibility
All current staff or faculty members with a 50% or greater appointment and postdoctoral research scholars and fellows (FP01 or FP02) are eligible for nomination.
Deans, associate deans, departmental executive officers (DEOs), and supervisors are preferred nominators. Other senior faculty or staff may also serve as nominators. Self-nominations are permitted.
The successful nominee will demonstrate a shared commitment to safe and responsible conduct in the workplace and meaningful impact in one or more of the following areas:
Development or implementation of an innovative program or process that significantly improves the University of Iowa’s safety culture.
Development or implementation of a creative change in safety operations with the potential for sustainability.
Nomination and selection process
Required documents:
Letter of nomination: A letter from a faculty member, senior staff member, or supervisor describing the nominee’s qualifications and safety innovation.
Nominee's CV, resume, or NIH biosketch: Up to 10 pages.
Late materials will not be accepted.
A selection committee comprising leaders from within the Office of the Vice President for Research, Environmental Health and Safety, and Iowa faculty will be appointed to evaluate nominations.
Award details
A $1,000 prize and a commemorative gift.
Recognition at the University of Iowa Faculty and Staff Awards Celebration, usually held in May.
