Award notices from the NSF will arrive with a new training requirement for proposals submitted after July 31, 2023.

“All faculty and senior personnel will need to ensure that they complete a new online course called RECR (responsible and ethical conduct of research),” said Mike Andrews, Director of Research Integrity & Security in the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR). “The OVPR is currently working to establish a compliant online training program, and will share instructions for accessing the course later this summer.”

Faculty and senior personnel will have 30 days to complete the training after receiving the notification of funding from the NSF. Completion of training is not required at the time of proposal submission.

The NSF requirements for training in the responsible and ethical conduct of research previously applied only to undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows.

Questions about the new requirements should be directed to Mike Andrews, Director of Research Integrity and Security, michael-andrews@uiowa.edu. An announcement about how to access the online course will be shared with campus in July 2023.
