Seminar Topics
The Research Development Office is hosting an in person grant writing seminar, Planning and Writing Successful Grant Proposals in the Creative Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities, that will be held on Wednesday, January 13 from 1pm-5pm and Thursday, January 14 from 8:30am-12:30pm. The seminar is presented by AtKisson Training Group.

Facilitator
Barbara Endemaño Walker is the Director of Strategic Research Initiatives at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB). She has a Ph.D. and M.A. in Geography from UC Berkeley and a B.A. in Anthropology and African Studies from UCLA. Her research and publications focus on broadening participation in higher education and STEM, and the gendered political ecology of marine resources in Ghana and French Polynesia. Her work has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, NOAA Sea Grant, the Social Science Research Council, and the Department of Education, among others. She was a founding board member of the National Organization of Research Development Professionals (NORDP), and she leads national and state-wide projects that focus on broadening participation in higher education in the context of the research enterprise, including the NSF-funded Center for Research, Excellence, and Diversity in Team Scholarship (CREDITS) and the California Alliance for Hispanic-serving Social Science Advancement (CAHSSA). She serves on the National Science Foundation Committee on Equal Opportunities in Science and Engineering (CEOSE). She is also co-author of the book Funding Your Research in the Humanities and Social Sciences: A Practical Guide to Grant and Fellowship Proposals (Routledge 2017).
Registration
- Registration includes one copy of the Handbook for Planning and Writing Successful Grant Proposals. No cost to register. However, if you do not attend at least one session, you will be charged $60 for the Handbook.
- The Handbook helps you through the grant writing process, starting with the early stages of planning your project. It contains clear and flexible solutions to communicating your idea clearly to the reviewer. The Handbook provides a heavily footnoted and occasionally humorous guide to turning your idea into a clear grant proposal.
