If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to sees it, did it happen? And if researchers make discoveries with commercial potential but don’t protect and license their inventions, will they ever reach the market?
Unlikely, says University of Iowa Research Foundation (UIRF) Executive Director Marie Kerbeshian, who is also an assistant vice president in the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR).
The Innovation EXPO 2015 will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the Coralville Marriott Hotel.
The event, sponsored in part by University of Iowa Ventures and the UI Tippie College of Business's John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center, connects entrepreneurs, creatives, financial resources, and business leaders in Iowa to help grow more new business, create jobs, and stay vibrant and globally competitive.
The University of Iowa Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development and John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center will have a robust presence this week during EntreFEST 2015 in downtown Iowa City, including a presentation by Vice President Dan Reed on “Extreme Computing: The Disruptive Rise of Clouds” at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
Additionally, the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development (OVPR&ED) will sponsor The Technology Association of Iowa (TAI) Tech Town Hall Iowa City during EntreFEST.
All UI faculty, staff, postdocs, and students are invited to the Hawkeye Innovation Summit on April 23, 5:00-6:30pm for a reception and talk by Arthur Krieg, MD, titled "Shifting from R to D: The ABCs of translating a great scientific idea into a great startup."
Dr. Krieg's talk will cover how to identify research ideas with commercial value, and how to pitch your ideas to industry representatives.
The session will include time for Q&A and a reception for attendees.
