Training Grants
Training grants offer an opportunity to do more than support individual trainees. They can help faculty build research communities, strengthen graduate and postdoctoral training, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and expand institutional research capacity.
This session is intended as a conversation and introduction to training grant opportunities rather than a technical grant-writing workshop.

The OVPR and Graduate College are hosting an in-person panel session on Friday, November 13, 2026 from 10:30am-11:30am.
Faculty panelists with experience developing and leading federally funded training programs will share their perspectives on why they pursued these opportunities, what they learned through the process, and the benefits and challenges of building successful programs.
The conversation will explore:
- Why faculty pursue training grants and what makes the investment worthwhile
- What it takes to develop and sustain a successful training program
- How these awards can strengthen research, collaboration, and institutional capacity
- Lessons learned and advice for faculty considering similar opportunities
