Join us for a Creative Matters conversation with Ashley Wheater MBE, Artistic Director of The Joffrey Ballet.
Marking the Joffrey’s 70th anniversary, the conversation will feature discussion of American Icons, the company’s landmark anniversary program, as well as reflections on the Joffrey’s past, present, and future. Wheater will also speak to the company’s longstanding relationship with Hancher and Iowa City, and what it has meant to bring the Joffrey’s work back to this community across generations. The conversation will be moderated by Leslie Nolte, founder and artistic director of Nolte Academy & Iowa Conservatory (ICON). Jennifer Kayle, DEO of the UI Department of Dance, will introduce the program.
The Creative Matters lecture series, launched in Fall 2015, seeks to demonstrate that creativity and innovation are not only at the core of all research and discovery, but also central to our human experience. Speakers include artists, thinkers, builders, and doers who challenge conventional thinking about creativity, science, and artistic expression, and borrow from a range of influences and disciplines in their work.
Presented by Hancher Auditorium in collaboration with Creative Matters, a program of the Office of the Vice President for Research.
