It turns out there is something Herky the Hawk can smile proudly about: the University of Iowa's longstanding ties to the U.S. space program. A new "Hawkeyes in Space" exhibit is opening Thursday at the Old Capitol Museum, and the logo features a gleeful historic image of the UI mascot sitting astride Explorer I, the first satellite the U.S. successfully launched into orbit.
